Hunting Borzoi
Russian Borzoi’s
Vadim paints the dogs in full chase, the rider has a hare already bagged and I suspect they are after another or maybe bigger game. This painting has the date of 1833 so we are in the era of the Grand Duke Nicholas.
The name Borzoi is used in the west to describe the dogs you see in the painting, but in Russia it is more a general term used for all “sight hounds”.
Russkaya Psovaya Borzaya (Psovoi - the longhaired borzoi) is a more correct name for this breed.
