The difference in location of eagle eyries here in the U.K. compared to what can be found in the western U.S. is the tolerance to human activity. I have been shown a number of Golden Eagle eyries that are on small rock faces that boarder a main highway, which clearly demonstrates that the occupants are not that bothered by the level of traffic. This eyrie, which is closely illustrated on the previous page, is on a ridiculously small face and the amount of activity tolerated is unusually high. Here in the U.K. we have a number of peregrine eyries on working quarry faces but our Golden Eagles are much more secretive and shy. |
